    Expert Advice

Digital parenting is an ongoing challenge that requires mutual trust between parents and children.

First, we must foster self-confidence in our children, teaching them to trust their instincts and knowledge, and to be wary of malicious actions. It is essential to explain the risks of cyberspace objectively, without dramatizing, so they can navigate responsibly.

Talking to them about the importance of privacy, discretion, and respect is key. In addition, as guardians, it is necessary to supervise their devices to ensure their safety.

Mutual trust will be essential so they always feel comfortable turning to us when facing any online issue.

    Expert Advice

It is important for parents to identify cyberbullying by observing signs such as sudden changes in their child’s behavior, reluctance to use electronic devices, or unexplained distress, such as not sleeping or eating.

To prevent cyberbullying, parents should educate their children about online safety and the importance of reporting inappropriate behavior, and foster open communication so children feel comfortable sharing their online experiences.

It is important for parents to use privacy settings and monitoring tools to supervise their children’s online activity and create a supportive environment where children feel safe and confident seeking help without fear, punishment, or judgment.

Keep talking—and most importantly, listening—to help combat cyberbullying.

    Expert Advice

Understanding what games your children are playing and feeling confident that they are appropriate for their age and development is a key priority for parents, but many feel overwhelmed or simply don’t know where to start.

There are some excellent websites that break down all the different categories you may want to consider; in particular, I really like “Family Gaming Database,” which is a very robust resource for parents interested in the many different games available.

Roblox also has a great Civility Microsite to help parents and caregivers navigate the online world safely and confidently.

Make sure to talk regularly with your children about their online lives in general; the more comfortable you are with them on this topic, the more likely they are to come to you if they need help.
